The Pekkurnaz Lab at UC San Diego is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team.

Our lab studies mitochondrial heterogeneity in the nervous system, with a focus on how mitochondrial function, organelle dynamics, and metabolism shape neuronal health, circuit function, and vulnerability to neurodegeneration.

The successful candidate will join ongoing projects that are already well developed, with opportunities to contribute immediately to manuscripts in preparation and to develop an independent research direction. Candidates with strong interest in brain metabolism, neuronal cell biology, and mechanisms of neurodegeneration are especially encouraged to apply.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A Ph.D. in neuroscience, cell biology, physiology, metabolism, or a related field

  • Strong experience with mouse models and/or in vivo experimental approaches

  • Experience with microscopy, imaging-based assays, or quantitative image analysis

  • Experience with viral injections, stereotaxic surgery, two-photon imaging, and/or live-cell imaging would be valuable

  • Interest in mitochondrial biology, brain metabolism, neuronal cell biology, or neurodegeneration

  • Strong motivation, independence, and collaborative spirit

Interested applicants should send a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and contact information for references to Gulcin Pekkurnaz.
